Gourmet Guru provides custom catering services, including Finger Food, Grazing Tables, Buffets, Spit Roasts, and Corporate and Cocktail Functions.


Our philosophy is simple: exceptional meals start with the finest ingredients and the time to prepare them with care.  This commitment to quality is at the heart of every menu, whether it’s Finger Food, Grazing Tables, Buffets, Spit Roasts or Corporate & Cocktail Functions. 


Operating from a registered kitchen with Manningham Council, Gourmet Guru has proudly received a Five-Star Food Safety Award for eight consecutive years - a true reflection of the team’s dedication to excellence. 


Our unwavering goal is to deliver consistently outstanding, high-quality and innovative gourmet catering, accompanied by exceptional customer service, to Melbourne's eastern suburbs.

Sonia Hocking - Director & Executive Chef

Chef Sonia founded Gourmet Guru Catering in 2019 and has been a distinguished chef for more than 35 years.


A mother of two and the driving force behind Gourmet Guru, Sonia started her journey in the hospitality industry during the 1990s, completing her Cookery Apprenticeship in Melbourne’s prestigious five-star establishments.


Since then, she has worked across almost every corner of the trade - from managing corporate cafés and fine dining restaurants to running aged care kitchens - each experience adding depth to her skills and passion.

Chris Hocking - Director, Sales, Logistics & Administration

Decades spent co-ordinating complex itineraries in the travel industry has given Chris the perfect background to plan, quote and arrange your special event.


He'll assist with all aspects of your catering booking.  His turnaround speed with proposals and quickfire communication is second to none - check out our reviews and you'll see this mentioned time and again.


Anyone who's ever enquired or booked with Gourmet Guru Catering knows the amazing lengths Chris will go to, ensuring that every detail is correct and that your event runs smoothly and efficiently. 


He's also our resident spit roast master and oversees the marinating, threading and slow-cooking of the delicious meats over our charcoal gyros spit for up to eight hours.


And you'll see his smiling face when your catering is delivered.


He also looks after administration and bookkeeping ... and someone has to clean the pots and pans!

Darryn Pitman - Chef

Chef Darryn joined Gourmet Guru Catering in November 2024.


Darryn’s culinary journey began in Melbourne over 30 years ago at iconic venues like Downstairs at Eric’s and One Fitzroy Street, before taking his talents to London where he honed his skills at some of the city’s most prestigious restaurants, including Bluebird, Oxo Tower, The Criterion and Head Chef at The Polygon Bar & Grill in Clapham.


His love of food (and adventure!) took him to Antigua, where he spent many years travelling the world on luxury yachts before starting his own catering business with his beautiful wife Gail.


After moving back to Australia, Darryn brought his expertise to respected names like Crabapple Kitchen, Vaporetto, Enoteca Sileno, and Noisette Bakery in different lead roles.


With Chef Darryn's passion, creativity, and decades of global experience, you can be assured your catering will be spot on every time.

Andrew Forster - Chef

Chef Andy joined Gourmet Guru Catering in July 2025.


Passionate chef, husband, and father of one. 


After finding his passion, Andy started his culinary career as a mature-aged student in 2010 at Sarti Melbourne.


Honing his skills at renowned venues including Studley Park Boathouse, Magic City, The Graham Hotel, Levantine Hill, Carne Grill, and Mercer’s, enjoying his time as Head Chef of Billy Goat Hill Brasserie and Eleanore’s Restaurant at Chateau Yering, naming just a few of Andy's memorable culinary moments. 


Beyond Andy's skills, he is deeply passionate about sustainability in the hospitality industry.


Andy has been a chef for over 15 years.

Gourmet Guru Wait & Bar Staff

We have a large wait and bar staff team who can assist at your next event.


For an event with finger food, two wait staff are normally best – one works as the event supervisor and heats and plates while the other circulates the finger food to your guests and they both clean and clear as they go.


If you're planning to provide your own catering or another company’s catering in addition to ours, our wait staff are unable to assist with the preparation, heating or circulation of that catering – they can only assist with the catering that we provide.


We can also assist with RSA-certified bar staff to serve soft drinks, beer, wine and basic mixed drinks but they cannot assist with more complex cocktails – you’ll need a mixologist for this.  Our wait staff cannot assist with the serving of alcoholic beverages - you'll need bar staff for this.


The rate is $60.00 per staff member per hour for a minimum of three hours per staff member - depending on your location, it is sometimes necessary to charge another hour to cover their travel time and expenses.
